The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team lost to the University of Virginia, 4-1, in a match played on Apr. 3 between two nationally ranked programs.
This match featured the #17-ranked Irish facing off against the #4-ranked Cavaliers. The outcome affects both teams’ standings as they approach the end of regular season play.
In doubles action, Virginia secured wins at No. 2 and No. 3 positions to claim the doubles point. Rice and Brockett from Virginia defeated Llorens Saracho and Nad of Notre Dame, while Santamarta and Kim won over Lee and Patrick. The top doubles match featuring Dominko and Gregg for Notre Dame against Dahlberg and Dietrich was left unfinished with a close score.
In singles play, Virginia extended its lead by winning three matches. Dylan Dietrich defeated Sebastian Dominko in three sets at No. 1 singles, while Keegan Rice bested Perry Gregg at No. 2 singles in straight sets. Douglas Yaffa added another point for Virginia by defeating Luis Llorens Saracho in three sets at No. 6 singles.
Notre Dame’s lone point came from Peter Nad, who overcame Jangjun Kim after dropping the first set but rallying to win in three sets at No. 4 singles.
