The University of Notre Dame Athletics Department announced on March 25 the introduction of its fourth sport-specific Leprechaun mark, unveiling a new design dedicated to the golf program. This latest addition follows previous releases for football, hockey, and basketball during the 2025-26 athletics season.
The release of sport-specific marks is part of an ongoing effort by Notre Dame to represent each varsity sport with unique branding. The new Golf Leprechaun was created in-house by Fighting Irish Media, incorporating input from both current and former student-athletes involved in the university’s golf programs.
The tradition of the Fighting Irish Leprechaun logo dates back to its first appearance on the cover of Time magazine on November 20, 1964, featuring then-head football coach Ara Parseghian. The image used for that cover eventually evolved into the widely recognized mascot seen today on various apparel and memorabilia.
Notre Dame officials say that while this is the final sport-specific mark release for the current athletics year, more team-focused designs are planned for future seasons as part of an ongoing series. The department confirmed that these efforts aim to celebrate each team’s identity while honoring longstanding traditions associated with Notre Dame athletics.
In collaboration with Under Armour, new athletic attire featuring the Golf Leprechaun is now available this season. According to Notre Dame Athletics Department representatives, fans can expect additional releases in coming years as each varsity program receives its own distinctive leprechaun logo.
