The No. 23 Notre Dame baseball team won a 14-3 game against Western Michigan on March 24 at Frank Eck Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
The game saw the Irish respond quickly after the Broncos scored first, with Drew Berkland and Noah Coy leading off the bottom of the first inning to tie and then take the lead. Mark Quatrani hit a home run, followed by Bino Watters with another solo shot, helping Notre Dame to a five-run opening frame.
Notre Dame extended its lead throughout the early innings. In the second inning, Berkland walked and later scored on a single from Watters. The third inning saw six more runs for Notre Dame, highlighted by extra-base hits from Jamie Zee and Berkland as well as another home run from Jayce Lee.
On defense, Kellan Klosterman started on the mound for Notre Dame and recorded two strikeouts over just over two innings. Dylan Singleton relieved him with two strikeouts of his own before Aiden Zerr pitched over two scoreless innings to earn the win in relief. Garrett Snyder closed out the seventh inning with a strikeout.
Bino Watters finished 4-for-4 at bat with three runs batted in (RBI), while Berkland contributed four runs scored and an RBI. Quatrani added three RBI on his home run effort, and Jayce Lee also drove in three runs with his homerun shot.
Notre Dame will continue its homestand this weekend when it hosts North Carolina for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series beginning Friday.
