Notre Dame lost to Michigan State by a score of 7-4 on April 8 at Frank Eck Stadium in South Bend.
The result adds another loss for the Irish, who are now 15-13 this season. The game featured early scoring from Michigan State, which took the lead with a solo home run in the first inning and added another run in the third. Notre Dame responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the third when Mason Barth scored after being driven in by Noah Coy’s single.
Michigan State widened its lead with four runs in the fourth inning, making it difficult for Notre Dame to catch up. The Irish managed to add runs throughout the game, including sacrifice flies from Drew Berkland and aggressive baserunning that led to additional scores. Despite these efforts, including late singles from Noah Coy and Mark Quatrani in the ninth inning, Notre Dame could not overcome Michigan State’s offense.
Key contributors for Notre Dame included Berkland, who drove in two runs with sacrifice flies; Coy, who had two hits and an RBI; Barth, who scored twice; Brandon Logan, who hit a double and scored; Jamie Zee, who reached base twice and scored; as well as Quatrani and Dylan Passo each adding a hit.
On the mound, Chase Van Ameyde took the pitching decision after one inning of work. Relievers Will Jaisle, Caden Crowell, Oisin Lee (three strikeouts), Dylan Singleton (four strikeouts over three innings), and Eli Thurmond combined for eight innings pitched.
Looking ahead, Notre Dame will continue its homestand by hosting Virginia for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series starting Friday night.
