The Notre Dame baseball team will travel to Tallahassee for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series against No. 8 Florida State, starting Friday, April 17.
This matchup is significant as both teams aim to recover from recent losses and improve their positions in the conference standings. The Irish currently trail in the all-time series with Florida State, holding a record of 17 wins and 26 losses.
Game one is scheduled for Friday at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium, with right-handed pitcher Xavier Hirsch set to start for Notre Dame against left-hander Wes Mendes of Florida State. Saturday’s game will feature right-hander Jack Radel versus left-hander Trey Beard, while Sunday’s starters have yet to be announced. All games are set to be broadcast on ACCNX.
Notre Dame comes into the series after securing a 6-1 home victory over Valparaiso earlier this week. Shane Miranda led the offense by going three-for-three with an RBI double and two runs scored. Bino Watters contributed three hits including a double, while Mark Quatrani added a home run. Noah Rooney earned the win in relief with two innings of hitless pitching.
Five players on the Irish roster are currently batting .300 or better, led by Quatrani’s .354 average. Head coach Shawn Stiffler recently reached his 100th win at Notre Dame, becoming just the seventh coach in program history to achieve this milestone.
Looking ahead, both teams hope to rebound from last weekend’s setbacks—Notre Dame dropped its home series against No. 13 Virginia two games to one, while Florida State was swept by No. 3 Georgia Tech.
