The Notre Dame men’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, concluding play on April 6 with a total score of 836, or 28 under par.
The result highlights a strong performance for the team as they approach the end of their regular season. Junior golfers Rocco Salvitti and Jacob Modleski led Notre Dame, both tying for 23rd overall with scores of six under par.
Salvitti recorded rounds of 73, 66, and 71 to finish with a three-round total of 210. His second round score of six under par was his best for the weekend. Modleski matched Salvitti’s overall mark by shooting rounds of 74, an eight-under-par round two (the lowest among all individual golfers that afternoon), and an even-par final round to close out his tournament.
Senior Nate Stevens ended just one stroke behind Salvitti and Modleski with a total score of five under par (211), finishing in 28th place after opening with a four-under-par first round. Mike Qiu contributed scores of two-under-par in both his first and final rounds to finish at four under (212) in 31st place. Calen Sanderson rounded out Notre Dame’s scoring by finishing three under par (213) for a share of 38th place.
The Irish will take a week off before competing in their final regular season event at the Ford Collegiate in Richmond Hill, Georgia on April 13-14. Afterward, they will prepare for the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships scheduled from April 23-27 in Panama City, Florida.
