The Notre Dame men’s tennis team advanced to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) semifinals after defeating North Carolina 4-3 in the quarterfinals on April 17. The match took place in Cary, North Carolina, with Notre Dame entering as the third seed and North Carolina as the eleventh seed.
This victory marks only the second time Notre Dame has reached the ACC semifinals since joining the league, with their previous appearance in 2018. The team now holds a season record of 21-6 and will face two-seed Virginia in the next round.
North Carolina entered the match on a two-win streak, having previously defeated Virginia Tech and Clemson. They secured an early lead by winning the doubles point, with all three doubles matches ending at 6-4. Sebastian Dominko and Perry Gregg were able to claim a win for Notre Dame against a ranked pairing from North Carolina.
In singles play, Notre Dame quickly responded with victories on courts two, six, and one. Perry Gregg defeated Roan Jones; Luis Llorens Saracho won against Logan Zapp; and Sebastian Dominko bested Chris Xu. However, North Carolina tied up the overall score by winning straight-set matches on courts three and four.
The deciding match came down to Kyran Magimay versus Constantinos Djakouris on court five. Magimay secured victory for his team by breaking serve late in both sets and clinching his match 7-5, 6-4.
Looking ahead, Notre Dame will compete against Virginia in hopes of reaching their first ACC final since joining the conference.
