The No. 17 Notre Dame men’s tennis team lost two matches during its road trip in Virginia, falling to No. 4 Virginia on Friday and then to Virginia Tech on Sunday, according to an April 5 announcement from the university.
These results affect Notre Dame’s standing as the team now holds a record of 19-6 overall and is tied for third place in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with NC State and Stanford, each holding an 8-4 conference record. The Irish have one regular-season match remaining against Louisville at home on April 11.
Against Virginia, doubles play was closely contested. The pairing of Luis Llorens Saracho and Peter Nad was narrowly defeated by Rice/Brockett with a score of 7-5. Sebastian Dominko and Perry Gregg were leading their match when it went unfinished. In singles competition, Notre Dame secured only one point from Peter Nad, who upset Jangjun Kim after three sets: 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.
At Virginia Tech, Notre Dame followed a similar pattern by losing the doubles point before ultimately dropping the match by a score of 4-1. Again, Nad provided the team’s lone victory in singles play against Drew Fishback with scores of 6-1, 1-6, and 6-4. Perry Gregg was close to securing another point for Notre Dame but his match remained unfinished.
Nad has now won four consecutive singles matches this season and has achieved a dual singles record of twelve wins and four losses.
Looking ahead, Notre Dame will host Louisville for Senior Day on April 11 as they seek to improve their position before postseason play.
