The University of Notre Dame softball team won 9-5 against Syracuse on Apr. 18, securing its third series win of the season and second on the road.
This victory is significant as it marks the team’s eighth conference win, which is the most under head coach Kris Ganeff. The Irish are now closer to qualifying for an Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championships berth. The team remains undefeated at 14-0 when scoring six or more runs in a game this season.
Notre Dame’s left side infield players made key contributions during Saturday’s game. Junior Avery Houlihan achieved a career-high three hits, including her first home run of the year and second career home run. Houlihan scored two runs and had two runs batted in. Freshman Ava Zachary also played a pivotal role by hitting her fifth home run of the year, driving in Mickey Winchell and increasing Notre Dame’s lead late in the sixth inning. Zachary finished with three runs scored and three RBI, bringing her season total to a team-high 26 RBI.
Pitchers Brianne Weiss and Kami Kamzik limited Syracuse to five hits while striking out five batters combined. Weiss earned her eighth win of the season, while Kamzik recorded her third save.
Notre Dame will attempt to sweep Syracuse with another game scheduled for tomorrow at noon eastern on ACCNX.
