The University of Notre Dame softball team will host Louisville for a three-game series beginning April 10 at Melissa Cook Stadium, according to an April 9 announcement. The weekend marks the program’s annual Strikeout Cancer Weekend, which raises funds for local families with children battling cancer.
Strikeout Cancer Weekend has been held by Irish softball since 2011 and features activities such as trivia night, a silent auction, and other promotions aimed at supporting children and their families. Funds raised go toward direct support including lodging during chemotherapy treatments, “Wish” trips for children, therapy dogs, and playroom funding at Beacon Children’s Hospital. More information is available on the event’s fundraising page.
Notre Dame holds a historical advantage over Louisville with a record of 29-20 all-time and a 12-8 mark in South Bend. The Irish have won six of the last nine meetings between the two teams.
Last season’s matchup saw junior Kami Kamzik pitch a complete game with nine strikeouts in Notre Dame’s 3-2 victory over Louisville on March 8, 2025. Senior Mickey Winchell has posted strong numbers against Louisville throughout her four-year career, batting .400 against them.
Admission to all regular season Notre Dame softball games at Melissa Cook Stadium is free. The team will play eleven of its final fifteen games at home this season.
