The No. 1 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s lacrosse team will play against No. 8 Virginia in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament semifinal at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 1. The match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. ET start and will be broadcast on ACC Network.
This game marks the beginning of postseason play for Notre Dame as they seek another conference title. The matchup holds significance as both teams are tied with a record of 12-12 over their previous meetings, with recent games often determining advancement or titles.
Notre Dame has participated in nine ACC Championships and holds an all-time tournament record of eight wins and five losses. The Irish have won three ACC titles—2014, 2018, and most recently in 2024—and have reached the final game five times out of their last eight appearances. In their last meeting during the regular season, Virginia handed Notre Dame its only loss so far this year with an 11-9 victory.
The Fighting Irish have performed strongly against top competition this season, posting a perfect record against ranked opponents and holding several high-powered offenses to season-low scoring outputs. Defensive standout Shawn Lyght was named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive time while goalie Thomas Ricciardelli earned ACC Goalie of the Year honors after leading his team to a regular-season conference title.
Offensively, Notre Dame features balanced scoring with multiple players surpassing key point thresholds through eleven games this year. Newcomers such as graduate transfer Josh Yago and freshman Teddy Lally have made immediate impacts alongside returning contributors from last year’s championship run.
Looking ahead, head coach Kevin Corrigan continues to add to his historic career win total at Notre Dame as he leads his team into another critical postseason contest.
