Congressman Rudy Yakym, who has represented Indiana’s 2nd District in the U.S. Congress since 2022, issued a statement after the House passed the fiscal year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
“The passage of the NDAA marks a vital step in ensuring the United States maintains the most capable and ready fighting force in the world,” Rep. Yakym said. “Our highest responsibility is safeguarding this nation against all current and future threats. By codifying President Trump’s executive orders, strengthening border security, and better equipping our servicemembers, this NDAA makes America stronger and more secure.”
The legislation includes several provisions such as codifying efforts to end certain ideologies within the military, focusing on meritocracy and accountability, and providing full funding for Department of War support to Department of Homeland Security border security operations. The NDAA also authorizes a 3.8% pay raise for servicemembers and improved benefits for military families.
Other measures include reforms to speed up acquisition processes at the Department of War, funding for defense priorities like new aircraft and submarines, investments in emerging technologies to counter threats from China, and changes to laws governing civilian hiring at the Department of War.
Yakym was born in 1984 and lives in Granger. He graduated from Indiana University South Bend with an associate degree in 2009 and a bachelor’s degree in 2011.
The act provides over $20 billion in savings through reforms assumed in President Trump’s budget request. It also includes new authorities to support allies’ contributions to their own defense and supports efforts for energy independence using nuclear power technologies.
